Training, Research and Visiting Opportunities

Alongside our research and digital tools, CASS offers a range of opportunities to learn about corpus linguistics, develop advanced research skills, connect with an international community of researchers and collaborate with colleagues from around the world.

Corpus Linguistics Summer School

Corpus Linguistics Summer School is a free intensive training programme for researchers, students and professionals interested in corpus linguistics, language data analysis and a variety of applications in the analysis of discourse, language teaching and language testing. The Summer School provides practical, hands-on training in corpus methods, tools and techniques, combining expert-led teaching with opportunities to work directly with language data. It is designed to support participants at different stages of their research journey and to develop practical skills that can be applied across a wide range of disciplines.

Corpus Linguistics MOOC

Corpus Linguistics and New Technologies: Data, Language and Society is a free online course from Lancaster University introducing the principles and applications of corpus linguistics. The course explores how large collections of language data and new technologies can be used to investigate language and society. It provides an accessible introduction to corpus methods and their applications, making it suitable for learners who are new to corpus linguistics as well as those looking to broaden their knowledge of the field.

Open Advanced Methods Research Group

Open Advanced Methods Research Group (hybrid format) brings together students and researchers interested in advanced methods for analysing language and other forms of data. The group provides an informal forum for sharing expertise, discussing methodological developments and exploring new approaches to research. It supports an open and collaborative environment where researchers can learn from one another, develop new methodological skills and explore innovative applications of computational and quantitative methods.

Visiting Scholars

CASS also welcomes Visiting Scholars from universities and research institutions around the world. Lancaster University Visiting Scholars Programme provides opportunities for researchers to spend time at Lancaster, engage with our research community and develop new collaborations. Visiting scholars can benefit from Lancaster’s expertise in corpus linguistics, computational methods and language research while contributing their own knowledge and perspectives to our academic community.
