A Great Moment for Spoken American English Research

This week marks an exciting moment for research on Spoken American English. As part of the New Frontiers in Corpus Linguistics Symposium at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, we are delighted to announce the release of LANA-CASE – the Lancaster-Northern Arizona Corpus of American Spoken English.

LANA-CASE is the first large-scale, freely available corpus of everyday, private American English conversation. With around 10 million tokens across 1,031 hours of conversation, 1,477 texts and 1,225 speakers from across the United States, it offers an unprecedented resource for exploring how American English is actually used in everyday interaction.

The corpus is available through LancsBox X and, following registration and agreement to the user licence, can also be downloaded for research and teaching.
